Avelino Corma: European Chemical Society Gold Medal 2024

The European Chemical Society (EuChemS) has been awarded the EuChemS Gold Medal 2024 to Avelino Corma, Research Professor ad honorem of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) (CSIC), Distinguished Researcher at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and founder of the Institute of Chemical Technology (ITQ), Mixed Center of the CSIC and the UPV.

From the SECAT We give the congratulations to our distinguished partner, who thus becomes the first Spanish researcher to receive this biennial award internationally recognized. To date, it was only held by the Dutchman Bernard L. Feringa (2018), winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2016, the Italian Michele Parrinello (2020), Dreyfus Prize 2017 and Benjamin Franklin Medal 2020, and the British Dame Carol Robinson (2022), former President of the Royal Society of Chemistry and first Professor in the Department of Chemistry at both the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford.

His words, in the face of this recognition, were:

"it is a great honour to receive the Gold Medal of the European Chemical Society. I believe that it is not only an award for me, but also brings with it the recognition of Spanish chemistry and the extraordinary work that has been done in catalysis research at ITQ and in our country for decades"
