Avelino Corma Canós, Professor Honoris Causa at the University of Cordoba

Avelino Corma Canós, Research Professor of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ITQ), was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Cordoba on 6 March 2018.

Avelino Corma Canós was born in Moncofa (Castellón). He studied Chemistry at the University of Valencia (1967-1973) and received his PhD at the Complutense University of Madrid in 1976. The work was carried out under the direction of Professor Antonio Cortés Arroyo, at the Institute of Catalysis and Petroleum Chemistry (CSIC). After two years of postdoctoral studies in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Queen's University of Canada, he joined the CSIC in 1979 as a Scientific Collaborator. In 1986 he became a Research Scientist, and in 1987, a Research Professor. Since 1990 he has been developing his scientific work at the Institute of Chemical Technology, a center he founded.

He works on molecular design of catalysts and sustainable catalytic processes in the fields of refining hydrocarbons and biomass derivatives, and fine chemistry. He has published more than 900 articles in international journals, written three books and numerous reviews. He is the author of more than 100 patents, many of them in commercial exploitation. He is a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering of Spain, the European Academy, the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences of Spain, the National Academy of Engineering (USA) and the Royal Society.

Avelino Corma has received important national and international awards, including the Prince of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research in 2014.
